Client
Gebr. van Pinxteren is an agricultural business in Rosmalen, Netherlands. Alongside a herd of around 700 dairy cows, it runs an arable branch, contract work for third parties, and manure processing and distribution.
The business is preparing to convert manure into biogas and feed green gas into the grid, which will raise its power demand on site. Ampowr delivered and installed a 1MW / 2MWh AmpiFARM alongside the 1MWp of solar already generating there.
Gebr. van Pinxteren wanted more return from the assets already on site. Ampowr activated Cosmos EMS across the full asset stack and traded EPEX Day-Ahead, imbalance, and aFRR at the same time.

Challenges
The battery and the solar were both in place, but the way they were run held them back. Three issues kept the assets from earning what they could.

01.
MANUAL AFRR STRATEGY
The aFRR trading was set by hand, without the responsiveness needed to run it well.
02.
SOLAR FEED-IN CONFLICTS
Feed-in worked against the battery, cutting both its utilization and its aFRR compensation.
03.
REVENUE LEFT ON THE TABLE
Load shifting and arbitrage were not in play, so the assets earned less than they could.
The Ampowr Solution
HARDWARE
AMPIFARM 1MW / 2MWH

Ampowr delivered and installed a 1MW / 2MWh AmpiFARM system, paired with the 1MWp of solar already generating on site.
The hardware was capable from day one. The gain came from how it was run: a single operator, in-house, across the full asset stack, covering system design, installation, the Cosmos software, grid services, and maintenance under one contract.
Cosmos Energy Management System (EMS)
MULTI-MARKET TRADING

Day-Ahead, imbalance, and aFRR are bid together, and capacity is split between solar feed-in and aFRR in real time.
Ampowr’s in-house developed Cosmos EMS is integrated into all Ampowr BESS solutions, including the AmpiFARM system at Gebr. van Pinxteren. From one dashboard the client monitors and controls the entire environment, generation, storage and grid, in real time, while Cosmos dispatches power automatically.
Cosmos EMS at Gebr. van Pinxteren includes:
Multi-market trading: Day-Ahead, imbalance, and aFRR are bid together, instead of one market chosen by hand each day.
Real-time PV / aFRR split: Cosmos decides moment to moment how much capacity to hold for aFRR and how much solar to send to the grid, so the battery and the solar stop competing.
Load shifting and peak shaving: Cosmos shifts load and can hold grid draw within the contracted limit, ready for the higher demand as the biogas plans come online.
Dashboard: The Cosmos portal gives real-time visibility of storage levels, grid draw, and site load.
Data Security: Software fully designed, developed, and hosted in Europe. ISO 27001 certified and NIS2 compliant.
The Bottom Line
With Cosmos running the full stack, aFRR availability was restored and the battery cycles more often through active load shifting and arbitrage alongside frequency restoration. The solar and the battery now work together, and the assets earn across every market at once.
For operators with generation and storage already on site, the gain came not from more hardware but from one party running every asset with one system.
FULL AFRR RESTORED
Available for frequency restoration again, no longer held back by solar feed-in.
MORE BATTERY CYCLING
Active load shifting and arbitrage put the asset to work across more of the day.
SOLAR AND BATTERY ALIGNED
Capacity is split between feed-in and aFRR in real time, so the two no longer compete.
