Challenges
PreZero faced grid limitations due to that prevented them from accessing additional capacity, which impacted their ability to fully operate their industrial machinery at times. Some of the machinery required high power, and due to these grid constraints, they were unable to run these machines during certain periods. Pre Zero operates machinery that has high power peaks, such as those used in paper production or similar heavy-duty operations. During these periods, the electricity needed might exceed the capacity contracted.

Peak Shaving
To address this, Pre Zero would store energy in the battery energy storage system from their solar panels production, and then use that stored energy during the high-demand periods. This helps reduce their reliance on the grid, lower energy costs, and prevent potential issues with overloading the grid or facing power shortages when their machinery is running. Essentially, peak shaving in Pre Zero’s case helps ensure that they can operate smoothly without disruption during times of high energy consumption.
Generator Steering
In addition, for this customer a customized feature has been added to Ampowr Cosmos, an automatic generator connection. When the battery is low and additional power is required, particularly if the facility’s grid limit has been exceeded, the Cosmos EMS automatically activates the generator, will be used as back up power, in case it is needed.
This approach helps avoid penalties for exceeding grid limits and keeps energy costs under control, ensuring Pre Zero maintains a stable, reliable, and cost-effective energy supply.
Energy Management System
The Ampowr Cosmos EMS is included in the AmpiFARM System. At Pre Zero, peak shaving and generator steering features were implemented to optimize energy usage. By leveraging Cosmos EMS, the facility monitors real-time energy consumption, solar PV production, and dynamically uses battery storage to reduce electricity demand during peak periods.
Cosmos EMS includes:
- Dashboard: User friendly Ampowr portal to monitor system information like solar generation, storage, grid and load.
- Monitoring: Based on Service and Maintenance package selection, incl. AmpiHealth module monitoring over 3,000 datapoints to track battery health and system state
- Data Security: Our Software is completely designed, developed and hosted in Europe & is ISO27001 certified, NIS2 EU compliant, has undergone 3rd Party Cyber PENTESTING
- Fleet Management: Our asset fleet management access employs a zero trust security model, allows managing multiple assets, organizing authorization
- Connectivity: In the event of lost connectivity our EMS will continue to perform strategies and collect data through a local backup feature
- Cosmos Partner API: to allow communication between other energy assets or 3rd party strategies
